Primary tooth eruption usually starts at about 6 months of age. But there may be some sypmtoms before 6th month. The sypmtoms and signs of tooth eruption will appear slowly at about 3 months of age

İncreased saliva secretion 

The first and the most important sign is increased salive secretion. İt starts several months before tooth eruption. There is no way of stopping excessive salivation. 

A slight fever not exceeding 38° celcius.

Most of the children may experience slight fever during teeth eruption. Fever not exceeding 38° combined with increased salivation, irritability and other symptoms may indicate the start of tooth eruption. İf the fever exceeds 38° there is a high probability of another infection and you should call your pediatrician. 

Diarrhea

İncreased salivatian may affect the bowel movement of your toddler. İncreased bowel movement may cause diarrhea. Your toddler will need to drink more water to restore the liquid lost. 

Biting and gum rubbing

Fot teeth to erupt into oral cavity it must past through the gums. İt is normal for toddlers to bite any object around them to facilitate the erupting. İt is part of their instinct. İtchy gums associated with tooth erupting also causes biting and gum rubbing in toddlers.

Localized pain

İt is normal for the kids to feel some pain during tooth eruption. İt can be relieved with mild pain relievers. 

İrritability

The pain, increased salivation and diarrhea associated with tooth eruption can lead to irritability, sleep disturbance and even aggressive behaviour. All those mood changes are expected. 

Loss of appetite

All those dynamic changes in the mouth, inflammation of the gums, pain, bleeding of the gums, itchy gums and irritability during tooth eruption can cause loss of appetite in the children and it is an anticipated symptom.

Swelling of the gums

İn some situations there may be bluish swelling on the soft tissue over an erupting tooth. İt is called eruption cysts and there is no need to panic in this situation. We suggest parents watch the area for a few days for spontaneous resolution. 

Result

All of the symptoms discussed above can be simultaneously observed or sometimes none of them can be observed. These symptoms do not indicate unhealthy tooth eruption. The symptoms can be different for each kid and for each tooth.
